A K Antony refused to support Sanjay Gandhi: WikiLeaks
The
cables, made public by WikiLeaks, also said the party faction led by
Antony, the Kerala unit president, refused to support Sanjay and
questioned his "rapid ascent to a position of power."

NEW DELHI: A K Antony was "one of the only" leaders apart from Priyaranjan Dasmunsi who "flatly criticized" Sanjay Gandhi during 1976 AICC session in Guwahati during Emergency when the latter's political graph was on the rise, US diplomatic cables have claimed.
The cables, made public by WikiLeaks, also said the party faction led by Antony, the Kerala unit president, refused to support Sanjay and questioned his "rapid ascent to a position of power" asking "what sacrifices he has made for the party or the country".
On the Guwahati AICC session and Youth Congress conclave, the cables said, Sanjay was the star attraction and he received top billing as the prime mover behind the organization's revitalization and as a national leader second only to his mother Indira Gandhi.
"He still may be number two, but Sanjay and company keep on trying harder," the cable sent on November 26, 1976 said.
Despite all the fanfare for Sanjay and the Youth Congress, the cables said, US diplomats in Delhi continue to hear and see no evidence that the quality of YC membership "improved measurably".
"Kerala Congress president A K Antony was one of the only leaders to flatly criticize the new Youth Congress and Sanjay. The other key critic was West Bengal Congress leader P R Dasmunsi," it said.
The cable went on to analyse that in the next year, ie 1977, unhappiness among Congressmen and the organisational ineffectiveness will become an increasing problem.
"... the effect of the Guwahati session has probably been to increase unhappiness inside Congress, increase confidence among Youth Congress leaders and further diminish any air of democracy within the Congress organisation," it said.
In another cable which talks about Sanjay's unpopularity in Kerala, it is said that talks with a variety of people in May 1976 left them with the impression that Indira's second son was "not very popular" in the state.
It said newsmen whom they met "resented" Sanjay's "rapid build up" saying that he was known only for his association with Maruti. The newsmen told US officials that Sanjay was not a politician and that he does not posses any qualities that were needed for political leadership.
"Predictably, the KPCC faction led by state home minister K Karunakaran supports Sanjay, as does one section of the Kerala Youth Congress.
"The wing of KPCC led by A K Antony and the other faction of the Youth Congress do not support him. Antony and those refusing to support Sanjay question his rapid ascent to a position of power, asking themselves, we understand, what sacrifices he has made for the party or the country," it said.
It said the Kerala Youth Congress is somewhat more radical than the other states and Sanjay's policies are not popular in Kerala.

Gandhi
said that he is willing to have Jinnah as PM if it can keep the country
united. But Nehru was desperate even though he was a junior leader.
India had to go through partition just to make him the PM. This resulted
in the riots that killed 1 million Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs. This
also resulted in Kashmir problem, Hindu-Muslim divide. The country has
made heavy price only to meet the ambition of Nehru.
Soon after he became PM, both Gandhi and Patel were removed from the
scene so that Nehru can have a free run. In the name of socialism,
Nehru put control on the business, media. This resulted in poverty even
when the congressmen started enjoying the power and started amassing
huge wealth.
Indira continued with this. India during her period is know for slow
growth rate (infamously known as Hindu Growth rate), 98% income tax,
huge inflation.
India almost became bankrupt in 1991. Thankfully, we were rid of this
family and India turned corner. The only memorable period that India
saw was from 1991 to 2004.
Even though Congress got serious drubbing in 2004 and 2009, they formed
post election un-holy alliance with their opponents by sharing power
thus further eroding governance and allowing mass corruption. It is
only surviving on divide and rule politics.
Can we afford Rahul as PM. He has no ideas, no experience, no track
record. He is not hands on. People like Sibal, Tiwari, Digy, Chidu will
be the real rulers just like they already are since 2004. Congress men
have no standing of their own and completely rely on this family to
catch the votes. But Rahul is failing to do so. He will take all these
congress men to grave along with him.
After the era of Nehru/Gandhi is over, it will be remembered as most
incompetent and corrupt regime. We need to bring an end to it for our
own benefit and for the country.
I also want to know why Sonia's illness is being kept confidential. They
are afraid that it can ruin her reputation.

Antony is no doubt an uncorrupted leaser but the rest of the bunch from
congress is rotten to the core. One bad apple i enough to ruin the
whole basket and in this case, antony is one good apple among the rotten
ones.. what can he do on his own. anyways, these revelations by
wikileaks is too old to be of any importance now.

What
the diplomatic or spy cables say is should not be take at its face
value. Antony and his followers could not make an impression on the
electorate of Kerala even with the support of the CPM. Kerala was the
only state that gave a thumping majority to the Congress in the
elections after the emergency. I think this fact should be kept in mind
in any informed debate on Antony's understanding on political
developments in India starting from 1969. He had joined the faction of
the AICC led by Nijalingappa. That is not the point here. The
selected release of diplomatic cables seems to have a political angle.
Are the Americans trying to give a buildup to Antony by blowing up his
image? If so why. Antony is known to be an honest man, free of
corruption. And there ends his endowments as a politician.

ANTONY DID SUPPORT ALL GANDHIS AFTERWARDS FOR HIS POLITICAL SURVIVAL
& POSITIONS OF POWER, WITH WHICH HE PRACTICALLY ACCOMPLISHED NOTHING

corrupt democracy in the world today. And there are only two kinds of
politicians in our country 2013. 1. Those who are corrupt to the core,
plunder & pilfer 24/7, illegally & unconstitutionally misuse
& abuse their power & pelf to escape the noose of the law,
regardless of all the extremely serious crimes they systematically
commit. 2. Those who actively/ passively, directly/indirectly,
knowingly/unknowingly, aid & abet the former group for self-seeking
ends & personal gains. But, corrupt they all undoubtedly are, as
aiding/abetting corruption is also corruption. NB! AKA belongs to the
second group. There are several reasons for it. The corrupt are killing
India & Indians 24x7 today. Why is he not raising his voice against
any of them? He can't, as he is simply hand in glove with them. He is
known as Sonia Gandhi's loyal servant. Many allegations have been
levelled against SG & she has not been able to defend herself
satisfactorily against them. It exposes her100%. Is it practically
posssible for any really clean person to serve a corrupt boss? No! Truly
good & honest people like Gandhiji left politics lond ago, as they
could not stoach the corrupt. But AKA didn't. And it reveals him.
Besides, only birds of the same feather can flock together. Mind!
Moreover, AKA has had 3 stints as cm of Kerala. The most serious
problems in Kerala were - & still are - corruption, poverty,
unemployment, inequalities of all kinds, extremely poor infrastructure,
very poor work culture, crying need for allround modernization, lack of
general welfare & adequate investor-friendly climate, polluted air,
water, adulterated food & medicines causing cancer, asthma etc. In
addition, Kerala has extremely serious issues of casteism, communalism,
extremism, severe law & order problems, incl the operation of mafias
& syndicates terrorizing citizens, lack of opportunity for a decent
living that has caused the biggest brain-drain in the history of
mankind & forced millions - including myself - to leave their
beloved ones, hearth & home etc. Why was nothing done by AKA to
solve any of those? In his life of 100% self-seeking enterprises, he
never cared a fig about our India & Indians. The extremely pathetic,
persisting realities in Kerala in general & defence now in
particular - our army lacks even ammunition & jawans shoes! - are
its crystal-clear & irrefutable proof. FINALLY, IF HE WAS HONEST,
HE SHOULD HAVE CERTAINLY STOPPED ALL SCAMS IN THE DEFENCE DEPARTMENT,
AFTER HE TOOK OVER AS DM. BUT, HE DIDN'T & IT SPEAKS VOLUMES. Abject
inefficiency is his hallmark & power for its own sake his sole
motto. That is the real truth.The Gandhian mask he wears & cheap
gimmcks he seems to love is only to dupe the gullible. So, get real, my
countrymen! A spade must be called a spade.
Sanjay Gandhi should be credited for family control. He has done a good. otherwise, India would have been full of terrorist

new. Everybody know. Wikileak may explain to the young generation as
the older generation are well aware of this incident; you may refer to
the newspapers during those periods - Malayala Manorama, Mathrubhumi or
any paper! Wikileaks is proclaiming this as if this was a secret!!!
This doubly makes sure that the Wikileaks is an organization (???) of

shave looks, nice dresses for khadi kurta/paijama, responsibilities for
power, his mother's tears when he was ascended to the VP of the party,
power (as it was considered poison by SG and still drinking in regular
intervals at doses as prescribed by some doctor)..well those are few
sacrifices he has made to name a few... :P

is new now, it is known to everybody that Antony, Dasmunshi are the few
people who do not support Sanjay Gandhi at that time, in fact some
state units of congress party also did not support him, although they
were with Indira Gandhi. So nothing new about Wikileaks, it is an old
story, not even in the new bottle.
