Hyundai Motor India total sales down 5 per cent in March
The company had sold 59,229 units in the corresponding month previous year, it said.
In the domestic market, the company recorded a decline of 13.46 per cent in sales at 33,858 units compared to 39,122 units in the year-ago period, it added.
Exports of the company, however, went up by 12.29 per cent to 22,579 units during the month under review from 20,107 units in the same period last year, the statement said.
"The slowdown of economy is impacting vehicle sales. Against large base of last year, there was a sharp drop in conversion of enquiries in the absence of any positive stimulus and sentiments," said Rakesh Srivastava, vice president of sales and marketing at HMIL.
The company foresees the pressure on volumes to continue till there is significant improvement in macro-economic factors, he further said.
In the A2 segment (Eon, Santro, i10 and i20), the company sold 47,678 units, while sales in the A3 segment (Accent and Verna) stood at 8,143 units in March 2013.
The company sold 50 units of the sports utility vehicle Santa Fe during the month. Sales of luxury sedan Sonata stood at 20 units, while Elantra witnessed 546 purchases.
