US Mint Circulating Coin Production March 2013

For the month of March 2013, the US Mint struck 932.56 million circulating quality coins at the Philadelphia and Denver Mint facilities. This is basically flat from the previous month which had production of 939.98 million, but up 18.58% from the year ago period when 786.46 million coins were produced.
For the first quarter of 2013, production has reached 3.096 billion coins. This is up by 43.07% from the production of 2.164 billion in the first quarter of 2012.
The table below shows the break down of circulating coin production for each denomination at each mint facility for the month of March, along with total production for the year to date.

Quarter production continues to show a sharp increase from the prior year. During 2012, the average monthly quarter production was 47.33 million. For the past two months, production has been running more than double this amount, with an even larger increase in January.
The US Mint struck their first half dollars during 2013, starting with 0.80 million at the Philadelphia Mint. Bags and rolls of circulating quality 2013 Kennedy Half Dollars are scheduled to go on sale at the Mint in June.
There was minor production of Presidential Dollars during the month.

The total for the William McKinley Presidential Dollar is indicated at 8.12 million, and the Theodore Roosevelt Dollar at 9.10 million. The latter is scheduled for release within numismatic bags and rolls later this week.
These production totals by design should be considered preliminary. In the past, the US Mint has reserved the right to restart production based on demand and production capacity.
