Tata Motors marketing wiz quits in tough hour for greener pastures

From page 01 MUMBAI: Ankush Arora, Tata Motors’ senior vice-president commercial, passenger vehicle business unit, has quit for greener pastures, ahead of what could be the most crucial car launches — Bolt and Zest — in the company’s bid to turnaround its fortunes in the domestic market.
Arora’s resignation was surprising since just last week he had met select journalists outlining a broad sales and marketing strategy for the launch of the hatchback Bolt and sedan Zest later this year. The two products are among the totally new products Tata Motors is launching after 3-4 years.
“I am simply moving on for better prospects. There is nothing more to it,” Arora told HT on phone. He added that he has been evaluating a couple of options, one of which is in the automobile industry, and will disclose it in the next few days.
Arora was brought in to Tata Motors in early 2013 by the company’s late MD Karl Slym.
“Tata Motors’ passenger vehicle sales are down to under 8,000 per month, compared to 30,000 units per month it was selling a couple of years ago. What’s more worrying is that its sales are falling. The brand new Bolt and the Zest are the most important products if it has to turnaround its fortunes,” said a market analyst.
Tata Motors brushed aside market concer ns and said Arora’s departure won’t have any impact on the upcoming launches. “Ranjit Yadav (president, passenger vehicle business) has been hands on with the Zest and Bolt launches right from the beginning. We have a strong sales and marketing team,” said a company spokesperson.
