Sensex falls in early trade on sustained selling

Mumbai: Extending losses for the third straight session, the BSE benchmark Sensex on Wednesday fell by 113 points in early trade due to sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend in Asian regions.
The 30-share barometer, which had lost over 118 points in the previous two sessions, fell further by 112.82 points, or 0.58%, to 19,452.10, led by losses in stocks of consumer durables, auto and information technology sectors.
Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty declined by 26.45 points, or 0.45%, to 5,887.65.
Brokers said sustained selling by funds amid a weak trend in Asian regions mainly influenced the trading sentiment.
In the Asian region, Japan’s Nikkei Index was down by 0.51%, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index 0.84% in early trade on Wednesday.
However, the US Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 0.02% higher on Tuesday.
