Sony sells 1 mn PlayStation 4s on Day 1

Sony sold over a million of its widely awaited new video game console PlayStation 4, best known as simply PS4, in the first 24 hours of launch on November 15.
Most of that was accounted by pre-orders from fans moving up up the PlayStation chain or switching from rival consoles Microsoft’s Xbox and Nintendo’s Wii.
A new version of Xbox — Xbox One — is coming soon too.
“PS4 was designed with an unwavering commitment to gamers, and we are thrilled that consumer reaction has been so phenomenal,” said Andrew House, CEO, Sony Computer Entertainment.
PS4 is on sale currently in the US and Canada. The company plans to roll it out in Europe and Latin America on November 29. There is no word yet on India and Asia.
The new console is more powerful than its previous avatar and the controller has several new features such as a touch panel in the front and a rear Move light.
Reviews have been mixed so far, with buyers and critics not getting enough time to explore the new features and compare with the old one.
Most customer reviews on Amazon, which took preorders, were in the 5-star, the best, or the 1-star, the worst, categories, with those dissatisfied complaining of the Blue Line of death. That’s pulsing blue light that indicates the console hasn’t hooked up, and is inspired by the “red line of death” that, according to Gamespot, plagued Xbox consoles for years.
