Equities were volatile due to lack of buying activity as wary traders stood on sidelines after a sharp correction in previous session. Lack of supportive cues from global peers also kept the bulls under check.

At 1pm; National Stock Exchange’s Nifty was at 6094.35, up 22.70 points or 0.37 per cent. The 50-share index touched a high of 6101.45 and low of 6039.40 in trade so far.

Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensex was at 20191.80, up 34.91 points or 0.17 per cent. The index touched a high of 20241.48 and low of 20046.60 in trade so far.

BSE Midcap Index was down 0.31 per cent and BSE Smallcap Index moved 0.27 per cent lower.

Amongst the sectoral indices, BSE Realty Index was down 1.66 per cent and BSE Oil&gas Index fell 0.73 per cent. BSE Bankex moved 1.48 per cent higher and BSE IT Index gained 0.66 per cent.

Nifty gainers included Cipla (3.41%), Sesa Goa (2.67%), SBI (2.48%), IDFC (2.37%) and HDFC Bank (2.29%).

Reliance Capital (-3.09%), Reliance Communications (-2.27%), Ambuja Cement (-2.27%), Ranbaxy (-2.07%) and Reliance Infrastructure (-1.80%) led the decline.

Market breadth was negative on the NSE with 1757 declines against 1408 advances.
