Relaunched Nano on anvil, says Ratan Tata

Tata Motors hopes to regain lost ground by making changes in its people's car Nano and re-launching it in the home market.

"A re-launched Nano with some of the differences that we're trying to incorporate, yes I do," said company's former chairman Ratan Tata in an interview on CNBC's Managing Asia programme.

Tata said that Nano may also be launched in other country like Indonesia , from where its new image will come back to India. Nano can also be marketed in Europe as there is lot of interest in the car outside India.

The Nano was launched in 2009 at a price tag of $2,500. Since then, it has struggled to gain traction.

Its sales fell 74 per cent year-on-year during April-September to 10,202 units.

In October, the Nano CNG emax , an eco-friendly variant of the original Nano was launched. The car can run on either gasoline or compressed natural gas, a move to push up sales.

The firm plans to launch a diesel-powered version of the vehicle by the end of March 2014.
