BMW brings 1-series to take on Merc A class
MUMBAI: BMW has launched its most affordable car yet, the 1-series, in
India three months after rival Mercedes Benz’ brought in its A Class,
taking the luxury carmakers’ fight to the niche segment of hatchbacks.

BMW hopes this car will revive its fortunes, as Mercedes has
already bagged 400-plus bookings for the A Class, which is priced R22
lakh– R23.5 lakh.
“This is a strategic product that will help us enter new arenas of market. It will strengthen BMW brand in India,” said Philipp von Sahr, president, BMW Group India.
