Android Marketers May Have Another Channel With RIM

Mobile advertisers are finding that the platforms available to them are growing in scope by the day. There was Verizon's launch of the iPhone, a move that is expected to expand iAd’s reach considerably. Now it appears that Android may become available on a RIM tablet.
Research In Motion’s forthcoming tablet, PlayBook, is getting a second look with talk of it building an integration so that users can port Android apps. Bloomberg has reported, citing unnamed sources, that RIM is considering this path. If it does opt for this route - RIM has declined to comment - the possibilities for RIM, which has been steadily losing ground in the mobile market become intriguing.
For starters, the company will be able to marry its corporate user base with the more free-wheeling world of Android apps. It will also overcome a key deficiency in its platform - namely the lack of its own apps. The RIM marketplace has a reported 15,000 apps, which is miniscule compared to Android’s 130,000.
This strategy, though, is for the most just talk and there are a number of challenges that must be overcome before a PlayBook sporting Android materializes. There will be many technical issues to solve before Android can run on RIM‘s QNX, Azita Arvani of The Arvani Group told TechNewsWorld.
