ONGC trades higher on the bourses

ONGC is currently trading at Rs. 260.15, up by 3.30 points or 1.28% from its previous closing of Rs. 256.85 on the BSE.
The scrip opened at Rs. 255.55 and has touched a high and low of Rs. 261.50 and Rs. 255.00 respectively. So far 3,15,000 shares were traded on the counter.
The BSE group 'A' stock of face value Rs. 5 has touched a 52 week high of Rs. 368.00 on 28-Sep-2010 and a 52 week low of Rs. 226.95 on 15-Jun-2011.
Last one week high and low of the scrip stood at Rs. 273.00 and Rs. 255.00 respectively. The current market cap of the company is Rs. 2,22,571.00 crore.
The promoters holding in the company stood at 74.14% while Institutions and Non-Institutions held 12.21% and 13.65% respectively.
Oil and Natural Gas Corporation's (ONGC) follow-on share sale, is likely to be launched on September 20 and will close on September 23. The FPO valued at around $2.5 billion has been delayed by more than six months. The company is likely to file the prospectus for the public offer with the markets regulator later on Monday.
The sale of a 5-percent stake in ONGC is an attempt by the Indian government’s broader proposal to raise about $9 billion through share sales in public sector firms this fiscal year which in turn will help plug the federal government's fiscal gap and generate funds for schemes for the poor.
The company’s net profit rose by 11.9% to Rs 4,094.90 crore, for the quarter ended June 30, 2011 against Rs 3661.14 crore for the same quarter last year. The total income has increased from Rs 14230.22 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2010 to Rs 17128.89 crore for the quarter under review up by 20.37%.
