The professor, who teaches at a private university in the city, is now facing arrest.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which mans airport security across the country, received a complaint from the owner, an MNC executive, who claimed to have left his laptop in the security check area on February 22. After going through CCTV footage, the CISF zeroed in on a passenger who was seen slipping the machine in his bag.
“Based on his appearance and his movements from the check-in counter to the boarding gate, we figured out which flight he was taking. We got the concerned airlines to share the details of all 129 passengers on board and shortlisted three possible suspects,” said OP Singh, additional director general (airport security), CISF.
The CISF then Googled their names. “Of the three, the professor’s details in his LinkedIn profile matched those of the passenger who had picked the laptop. When we confronted him with the evidence, he admitted to having taken the laptop,” Singh said.
“We have recovered the laptop and returned it to its owner. The professor has been charged with theft. A Bangalore Police team should arrive in Delhi soon to arrest him,” he added
